Adding key search words to your embroidery designs is a great way to keep track of who you created the design for, what you did to modify it or any specialty techniques which are included in it, etc.
You can also use these words to find a design later using Windows® Explorer if you have the 6D™ Windows® Explorer Plug-in installed. The search function will not only search the name of the design but it will also search the notes area within it.
The Notes feature is available in the 6D™, 5D™ and 4D™ Embroidery Software Systems. To search designs using the 5D™ and 4D™ Embroidery Software Systems you will need to use the Organizer module. You can add notes in the Embroidery, Stitch Editor Plus, Design Creator, Sketch, and Cross Stitcher modules.
To add a note to a design, simply select the design then click Edit in the Notes and Settings section of your screen. Type your notes in the window. The notes are saved when you click OK.
To search using Windows® Explorer, select the location you want to search in. In the Search text box, start typing in the word or phrase you added to the Notes. Windows® Explorer will display all items that contain that word or phrase in the name and also those items containing the word or phrase in the Notes of the design. If you just want to search within the notes field, add "notes:" before the word or phrase you want to search for.
Once the desired embroidery file is located simply double-click to open it. If it is an embroidery design (stitch file) like VP3 it will open in the Embroidery module. If it is a design file (EDO) it will open into Design Creator. (Explorer will only search for text in the name of EDO files; however if you enter text in the notes it is automatically added to the embroidery file when you Export Embroidery.)
In 5D™ Embroidery and 4D™ Embroidery there is no Explorer plug-in. Check out the Help system and the Organizer User's guide for tips on using the search function within this module.
Do you like to draw? You can create embroidery stitches as if you are using a pencil or paintbrush in the Sketch module. Add free motion embroidery highlights and texture to your favorite pictures, fabrics and designs.
New to 6D™ Sketch is the ability to sketch curved lines or straight lines of running, triple, and satin of varying widths. These new capabilities make it so much fun to create crazy quilt block designs like the one pictured!
Bring in a background picture as a reference to place your lines or create with no picture. First, lay a line of running stitches to show you where to place the fabric. Then lay a line of running stitches to tack down the fabric. Flip the fabric over and finger press. Decorate with a line of Motif stitches over the folded fabric. Finally, place a line of running stitches around the perimeter of the block to keep the fabric in place when joining blocks.
In 5D™ and 4D™ Sketch you can achieve similar results using the Quilt Motion and Motif Motion features.
It's "sew" easy to create redwork or blackwork designs in 6D™, 5D™ or 4D™ Design Creator! The ExpressDesign Wizard, Express Trace function creates a new embroidery design by tracing outlines in the picture.
Choose from Double or Quadruple trace to create this style of embroidery. Select Satin Line when a bolder outline is desired. The great thing about creating an embroidery in Design Creator is that you can easily change the design without starting over.
The clipart to create this chef hat can be found in the new Hats & Shoes folder of 6D™ Embroidery System Samples.
Did you know there is a QuiltDesign Label Creator Wizard in the 5D™ QuiltDesign Creator software? It allows you to make a personalized label for your quilt in a few easy steps!
First, choose a style for your quilt label. Select from one of the 50 pre-defined system styles or a previously used style from the list. Change fonts, thread colors, have 1 or 2 text areas with an optional flourish between. Finish with a frame or border. You can also add a fold line and a cut line around the label. The example shown started with System Style 17 and ended up as a unique quilt label.
Fun Facts to Know and Tell
Did you know that you can create your own Motif stitches using 6D™ and 5D™ Design Creator? The motifs can then be used throughout your system wherever motif options are available.
Best wishes from 6D™
